clear whistle. middle one lower. it finally quit around 4.

Likely a whip-poor-will if you are hearing three quick parts and it ran half the night. They used to be common all along the Quill River side, then got scarce for a while.

That is my vote too. A mockingbird repeats and changes the phrase; a whip-poor-will can give you the same three-part call for a very long time. Nice to hear one close to the river again.
